Prosthodontics Appliance Wearing Rate for the Disabled Adults in Korea

Abstract


Objective: In order to suggest the oral health and the prosthetic policy for the disabled persons in Korea, the suvey for the prosthodontics appliances were surveyed at some representative targeted organizations for the disabled persons.

Methods: 1,315 of disabled persons with such syndrome as physical disabilities, mental disorder, visual disturbance, hearing impairment brain lesions and autism. were participated from 50 disabled person¡¯s facilities in whole of Korea. Oral examination by trained dentists were performed and the questionnaire was done for the informations about prosthodontics state for individual through the help of the guardians. The data were collected and analysed.

Results: The bridge e applied rate for disabled adults was estimated as 13.22% and 1.82% in implant, the denture wear rate was calculated as 5.32% as partial denture and 4.18% in full denture as low rate of the denture wear for disabled adults.

Conclusion: The more active oral health policy should be established for the handicapped adults, in order to enhance the oral functional abilities for them as to serve the prosthodontics dental service in the future.
